The new Blagoevrad sports hall will be available for the members of the newly recognized “Griffins” Basketball Club twice a week, starting after the spring break. “I hope that the mess around the local elections that delayed the renting of the hall is already behind us,” said Yasen Nedelchev, sports coordinator at AUBG. The sports hall will be available for both Basketball and Volleyball clubs Monday through Thursday for 45 lv per hour. The borderlines of the small street-ball field between Skaptopara 1 and Skaptopara 2, seemed to be too small for the real Basketball fans at AUBG. Therefore, sophomore Miroslav Natov and first-year student Aleksandar Rakshiev took the initiative to establish a Basketball Club, to provide better organization of the players. “If there are sports, there also has to be organization,” said Rakshiev, currently vice-president of the club. The club still does not have a coach, but “there has to be a professional from outside the University to organize the players and guide them to a more efficient training,” said club president Natov. AUBG’s sports coordinator Nedelchev is planning to find an outside trainer. “We just have to further the organization,” he said. One of the goals of the club is to introduce an AUBG basketball championship to motivate players. Furthermore, friendly games with other university teams might be organized (a possible rival is the team of Blagoevgrad’s South-Western University). “We cannot participate in local championships, because our academic year ends in the beginning of May, when the final phase is held,” the president of the club said. Basketball fans will be able to use the sports hall’s facilities Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00 until 10:30 p.m.
