APR 6 – The AUBG Olympics, initially scheduled for April 5, were postponed for two weeks because of the rain. The event will be held on the baseball field on Sunday, April 20.

Until the very last moment, the organizers did not want to postpone the event. But, when they went to check out the field’s condition at 8 a.m. on the day of the Olympics, “the grass looked like a dance-floor and the tennis courts - like a swamp,” said Borislav Valchev, one of the organizers. They were forced to put notices around Skaptopara and cancel all food orders and sound equipment for the day.

Since the tournament is put off for two more weeks, the organizers plan to email every single contestant to confirm their availability for the new date. In addition, the deadline for new participants to sign up is extended until April 16. Sports disciplines will not change because of the new date.

Postponing the Olympics made a lot of people unhappy, especially those who woke up early to catch the morning bus to the baseball field. Since most of them were tennis players, members of the Olympics Committee Gevorg Khachatryan and Anton Hristov decided to organize a tennis tournament on Saturday, April 12. “There are about 50 people who registered to play tennis at the Olympics. [Our] tournament is going to be more like a training session, so that people can get in shape,” Khachatryan said.
