On April 2 Ben Bernanke, the chairman of the US Federal Reserve (Fed), told a congressional committee that output of the US economy was unlikely to “grow much, if at all, over the first half of 2008 and could even contract slightly.” In its latest “World Economic Outlook,” published on April 9th, the The International Monetary Fund predicted recession for America's economy both this year and next, the Economist reported.
