Blagoevgrad municipality continues its inspection of building projects and real estates around town after the department of Architectural and Construction control dug up substantial discrepancies between building firms’ ledgers and citizens’ tax declarations.

The inconsistencies appeared in the financial records of six construction companies that have recently put into operation large properties, such as apartment blocks and office buildings. The sums in their records do not correspond to those declared by the new owners of the premises. Therefore, officials will start revision procedures against the buyers. Mayor Kostadin Paskalev said the municipality would thus gradually put all real estate declarations in order.

The inspection in Osvobojdenie, a neighborhood in northwestern Blagoevgrad, revealed lack of construction and exploitation permissions and a number of unfulfilled municipal prescriptions. Out of the 47 building sites checked, two have been stopped. Starting Monday, October 20, all ongoing projects in the vast end district of Elenovo have been undergoing inspection.

The paperwork examination is a part of the municipality’s idea to raise its revenue without tax increases. Before construction sites and real estate, registrations of motor vehicles and garbage tax declarations were scrutinized.
