Tinkerbelle, Lion King, the little mermaid and Cinderella. These sure ring a bell in your mind, but who would have thought that soon the above may be associated with exclusive fashion, style and elegance? Just have a look... How much are you willing to pay for your favourite Disney character? Not so long ago, when you heard of Disney what you might have thought of were your favourite cartoons, a colourful pair of Mickey Socks, or some Winnie-the-Pooh cosy pyjamas. I guess the maximum you were willing to pay for the above items did not exceed $50. Not many would relate those products to fashion, but life is full of surprises! Believe it or not, things have changed dramatically over the last few years. Disney now produces designer wedding gowns, which cost as much as $3900, and although the Disney characters are not visible, the clothes are inspired by and carry the name of the Disney Company. It seems odd that women would like to link their weddings to a cartoon company, but if these products are selling then there is definitely a market for them. Disney also produces designer shoes and bags, which have tiny little cartoons at the side, such as Alice in Wonderland and are becoming increasingly popular in the USA. Although till now, the Disney brand is mainly associated with children and does not have a reputation for its glamorous fashion designs, according to the New York Times, the company is trying hard to do so. The word is out that Disney is seeking partnership with designers such as Dolce and Gabbana. The prices of their products are expected to hit the roof as a result of their alliance. It is up to the prospective customers to decide whether or not they will accept Disney’s transformation. Perhaps, one day Disney clothing would be displayed in designer boutiques around the world’s top fashion malls. I love Timon and Pumba, but will I ever love them more than Dolce and Gabbana? Who knows.
