Jan. 31 - “Journalism is a calling and not just a job,” said Venelin Petkov, an award-winning Bulgarian journalist at bTV presentation Thursday, in the Red Room. The event aimed to introduce students to the strategy of the channel and the career opportunities that bTV offers. Besides Petkov, the speakers were Vilma Pavlova, Human Resources Director, Ina Markova, PR Manager and Vladislav Kovachev, IT Specialist and AUBG alumnus. The presentation was organized by bTV and AUBG Business Club. Venelin Petkov, who is in charge of bTV’s News Internship Program, said that if a person is motivated enough, journalistic background is not necessary to start a career at bTV. bTV offers internship opportunities to both Bulgarian and international students. He urged the students to read and watch more news as interest in the world around is the key to success in journalism. “bTV holds about 37% of the market share in Bulgaria, which is about twice as much as its closest competitor Nova TV,” Markova said. She noted that in the increasingly competitive Bulgarian environment, the company’s social responsibility, highly motivated employees and innovative approach in news-making are the reasons behind bTV success. “There are currently more than 400 employees working at the company and as the HR director I work with all of them,” Pavlova said. “We are always looking for motivated, pro-active and self-driven people to join our crew,” she added. Vladislav Kovachev, AUBG Class of 2008, presented “Vizrt,” graphic software currently used by bTV. He said that all leading media including such as CNN and BBC work with “Vizrt.” “This semester our club will be dedicated to inviting more companies interested in giving career opportunities to AUBG students,” said Silvia Kirilova, co-president of the Business Club.
