Every American generates an average of 4.5 pounds (2.04 kilos) of garbage per day, more than at any point in history, said the movie “The Trashed”. “The Trashed” is a part of the ECO-Film series organized by the Better Community Club, People to People International, the Environmental Club and the Resident Assistance team. It is a documentary movie about waste and recycling in the United States. The movie aims to show how little Americans know about garbage disposal and how dangerous the enormous amount of trash is for our planet. The trash problem, movie argues, is out of sight and mind, although it contributes to the global warming. Areas used for burying the waste, the landfills, constitute the second largest contribution to greenhouse gases production. “The Trashed” also emphasizes the importance of preserving natural resources. With booming population rates, misuse of natural resources is not sustainable. “In [the U.S] we are spoiled: we are 5% of the world population and we waste 25% of the world’ natural resources,” said Lee Addleman, vice president of “Waste Management,” a leading in the area of environmentally safe trash and waste removal and recycling. The movie draws said predictions for the future: very soon every landfill in the U.S. will be only 1.5 mile away from a school.
