If you forgot to drop a course during the add/drop week due to laziness, too much of “Underground” or vodka “Flirt,” relax: not all is lost. Withdrawal (W for What-a-great-option!) A withdrawal from a course can be done until the end of the seventh week of the semester. A withdrawn course does not count towards the GPA and, therefore, does not affect it. However, when you open your student transcript, you will have a greater number in the column Hours attempted than the one in the column Hours earned. Incomplete (I for I-don’t-want-that) Attention, you cannot use this option if you are on academic probation. The status of an incomplete course is given in extraordinary circumstances: when a student’s inability to submit required work prevents a faculty member from assigning an ordinary letter grade. A letter of I can be given at the discretion of the professor until the beginning of the last week of classes. The student also needs to receive the permission of the Dean of Faculty . The professor and the student then sign a contract, which has to be approved by the head of the respective department. The student must complete the terms of the contract by the end of the fifth week of the following semester. The student will receive their grade by the end of the sixth week of the semester. Retake (R for Risky-Business) Be careful when you decide to retake a course. Students usually do so when they are dissatisfied with their previous grade. However, there is a catch. Ultimately, you do not get the better of your two grades, but the last one (which might not be higher than the first). Students may normally repeat no more than three courses in their career at AUBG, each of them only once, regardless of the grade received. Both grades are recorded and appear on an official transcript. The course counts only once towards the total number of credit hours but twice towards the hours attempted. Excerpts from the Academic Catalog 2007-2008 are included.
